Joining the Townsville & District 4WD club is easy and provides you a great opportunity to have fun with a group of people who have a passion and willingness to share in adventures in the great outdoors.
Enjoy 4WDriving and camping, gain new friendships, and the experience of our great social events. Members come from all walks of life and many have started out with limited experience in 4WDriving. Many members just enjoy the experience while others have a desire to conquer the elements with gadgets and their machines.
We treat safety as a priority and by enjoying the 4WD experience in a group of like-minded people it ensures that if there are any concerns with experience or safety, or unfortunate breakdowns, you are supported by fellow club members. Whether you are new to 4WDriving or have experience you will take comfort in the knowledge that members of the club are happy to help and share their expertise.
No matter what type of 4WD vehicle you have, there are a few things you will need to have before joining us on your first trip:
- Your vehicle is mechanically sound
- It has front and rear recovery points rated to 4,000kg
- Your own snatch strap
- 2 x bow shackles rated to 3.25 tonne
- UHF radio (if new to 4WDriving and you don’t have one, please advise the Trip Leader who may be able to arrange a hand held for your first trip)
The club is family orientated and offers a safe environment with organized activities.

Club meetings are held on a monthly basis, on the last Tuesday of the month. Generally each meeting is held at Bicentennial Building, Kirwan (see Contact Us info for further details), however from time to time meetings are held at Supporters Venues (see our Facebook page for latest updates).
At your first meeting, introduce yourself to the Club President who will say ‘hello’ and answer any questions or queries you have.
Meetings normally last about an hour with refreshments afterwards.
Before becoming a member, you need an opportunity to get to know the club and likewise we need an opportunity to get to know you, and to enable us to do that we ask that you come on two (2) trips before you are eligible to apply for membership.
Once the club receives your application, joining and membership fee you are eligible for nomination to become a member.
The membership fees for the current year - 1st July to 30th June are:
- joining fee - $10
- membership approx. annual single member - $40,
- membership approx. annual fee joint/family members - $60
- Pro rata fees apply from April each year
You are then nominated by two members of the club at a general meeting and the following month the club members vote to accept your membership.
Club membership fees include membership to 4WD Queensland and Public Liability Insurance (both compulsory).

As a member of the club you will also get an opportunity to gain benefits from our various Club Supporters. Further details of these will be supplied to you on your membership acceptance.
Members also have the privilege to attend ‘member only events’ such as private station visits or long trips like the Cape, Simpson Desert, Lawn Hill etc.
