Trip Leader – Bob, 6 Vehicles attended trip through back roads of Burdekin and Mingela area. The idea was different driving surfaces, which was mainly black stuff but some sizable gravel sections, steep grades that made for a pleasant day’s drive.
After meeting at BP Cluden Service Station at 8.00 for an 8.30 am start on Sunday 26 November 2017, we headed off on our journey.
There was a little back block navigation among cane fields back into the Aussie bush. Morning tea at 8 Mile Creek which was a stand round cuppa and pumpkin scones, thanks Colleen.
Then an enjoyable drive over the hill to Ravenswood and on to a social lunch at the Mingela Hotel. We pulled in for a cool drink but one vehicle had to headed back to Townsville.
There was a few Bikes parked outside and as we sat there about 100 more bikers (male and female) arrived and the seating started to became scarce, and we soon realised we should had ordered when we first arrived.
With an expected wait for our lunch, 3 of our members decided to head for home. The remaining 6 looked at our options wait 1 ½ hours for lunch, a meat pie at Calcium, or a pub meal at Charters Towers. The pub won, and they had a Christmas Roast lunch on, which was great. After dining we took the chicken route home straight down the Flinders Highway to Townsville.
I would like to thank all that participated, Kim and I enjoyed everybody’s company it was most pleasant, and I hope everybody enjoyed the meander though the upper Burdekin valley to Ravenswood and on to Mingela. My first trip Leader job done and dusted.
