Who Are We?

The Townsville & District Four Wheel Drive Club is a family oriented group who enjoy hopping into their four wheel drives and heading into the great outdoors to have fun 4WDriving, camping, fishing, bush walking, photography and basically just escaping the crazy rat race of life.

The club has a wide range of members from singles, families with young to middle aged and retirees.

Where Do We Go?

We try to run trips at least once a month to various destinations to suit drivers of any level of experience. Trips can include; day activities of 4WD familiarization, overnight destinations for a quick refresh, long weekends where we go exploring beyond and hunt out new discoveries.

Extended trips (up to 4 weeks) are run for members to iconic locations such as Cape York, the Simpson Desert, Hay River, Lawn Hill etc.

Many of our club members also support other community groups and at the Townsville & District 4WD Club we hold an annual cleanup at the Ravenswood Cemetery. This event is a great way to get together, give back to the community and also share some good laughs.

When we are not 4WDriving we also hold social events which is a great way for visitors to get to know the club. Our social events include; our world famous camp oven cook-offs, which are sure to get your taste buds dancing; our annual AGM Dinner, the club's Christmas party, New Years club breakfast, lawn bowls, ten pin bowling and trivia nights to name a few.

Like all clubs some of our members have been in the club for many years and some have recently joined.

Clubs are as good as the volunteers who help keep the club ticking along. We encourage all members to get involved in the club, to help keep the club alive and evolving. Even a small gesture of leading a trip can continue to grow the trip events calendar and make fun for everyone.

Club History

The club started under a fig tree down at Rowes Bay on the 6 February 1993 with about ten people in attendance.

As the club grew meetings were held at various places around Towsville before we settled into the Bicentennial Building (formerly Soundshell) adjacent to the Thuringowa Library & Council Office.
