The group headed up to Paluma and then onto dirt roads to get to Mt Fox. This was cattle country and we had to keep an eye out for numerous cattle roaming along the road. A few crossings had a little water but they could be a challenge after a lot of rain. We had a great lunch at the Mt Fox campgrounds, courtesy of the Social Committee. The campgrounds were well maintained. The weather was unexpectedly quite cool so getting back in the cars after lunch was well received.
After lunch we drove to the base of Mt Fox but due to light rain we didn’t hike up to the top of the crater to do another day. Our return trip took us in a different direction along dirt roads and came out on to the
Gregory Development Road and returned to Townsville via Hervey Range Road.
